Our home is situated on approximately 1/2 acre of land. We are close to Schieser Elementary School and the Lisle Junior High School. We are close to St. Joan of Arc Church which also has a private school for grades K-8. We are also close to I-355 and I-88.
We moved in to our home in January of 1995 and we immediately began rehabbing. We rehabbed the wood floors, updated the plumbing, had a new roof installed (with replacement of some plywood), installed new steel insulated doors and rehabbed the basement (which included a new ceiling, carpeting). During our work on the basement we completed a 2nd bath and den. Had an oak wet bar with shelving and cabinetry custom built and had a sump pump installed. We found a crack in the wall and had it filled with epoxy.
In 1996 we had new windows installed in the master bedroom, 2nd bedroom and bathroom. In 1997 we installed a new tile floor, vanity, sink/counter top and light fixtures in the upstairs bathroom. In 1998 we installed the remaining windows upstairs. In March of 1999 we had patios installed both in front and behind the house, these included new stairs and edging from the front around the side to the back as well as a planter box which lines the driveway. In July of 1999 we had the air ducts cleaned and sanitized.
We love the fact that our kitchen has an eat in portion, it has given way to many evenings of just sitting around the table and talking. The cabinets under the counter all have pull out shelves. And there is a very large pantry. We enjoy and use our basement daily. It is a great area for entertaining and relaxing. It also proves as fabulous guest quarters as it provides them with their own bathroom, fridge, microwave and tv. There is no one specific thing that we love because we have tried to make every inch of a reflective part of the quality we believe in.
Since March we have spent many evenings out on our patio relaxing and talking or spending some quiet time at night enjoying the breeze. We have a few gardens and they have been the heart of our summers. Gardening here has been very enjoyable, especially in the spring when the tulips blossom and the roses begin to bloom in the summer. There is a large plot of land set aside behind the garage for a vegetable and it has provided us with fertile soil and great tomatoes come August. As summer turns to autumn the abundance of trees in the yard supply vivid tones of red and orange. In the winter after the snow has fallen, the deepness of yard provides a beautiful back drop to the large picture window in the living room.
